Welcome to Akihabara Vintage: Our Story, from Japan to You
Share
Hello, and welcome. I’m Takuya from Akihabara Vintage.
Based in Akihabara, Tokyo, we connect customers around the world with cameras, lenses, and other special pieces from Japan.
For our first blog post, I’d like to share a little about the people behind the store—and why this work means so much to us.
Our journey into international sales began in 2019
We were already selling cameras before we began selling internationally through eBay in 2019. We continue to sell there today.
Over the years, we’ve exchanged messages with customers in many countries. Some of the most meaningful moments have come after an item has arrived: a kind message, a thank-you, or a photograph a customer wanted to share.
The messages and photographs that keep us going
Customers sometimes send us photographs they’ve taken—a moment with their family, or a beautiful landscape.
Seeing those images reminds me that beyond every item we send, there is a person with their own life, interests, and reasons for choosing it. Learning how much joy our work can bring has had a lasting effect on me.
I share these messages with our staff, too. Seeing the team light up when they hear from a happy customer is something I treasure. The customer’s joy becomes something we can share.
That connection—with our customers and with one another—is a big part of what keeps us going.
Helping special pieces find the people who appreciate them
Here in Japan, there are remarkable cameras and lenses waiting to be discovered by someone who will appreciate them.
It might be a camera for making photographs, a long-sought addition to a collection, or a piece someone wants to keep for its craftsmanship and design.
People value cameras for different reasons. We respect those differences, and we care about helping each piece find its next owner.
That care carries through the work involved in checking an item’s condition, presenting it in photographs, and preparing it for its journey. We want the moment it arrives to be a happy one.
However you enjoy cameras, you’re welcome here
Perhaps you’re choosing your first film camera. Perhaps you’ve been taking photographs for years, collecting rare equipment, or building a collection around pieces you value and want to preserve. You may also run a camera shop or sell equipment to customers in your own country.
Whatever brings you here, we’re glad you found us.
On this blog, we plan to share practical guides to choosing and using film cameras, stories about cameras and lenses, and ideas for enjoying a collection.
We hope you’ll stop by when you’re considering your next camera—or simply feel like learning a little more about one you love.
A little about me
Outside of work, I’m a husband and a father. I love visiting camera shops around Japan and seeing wonderful cameras in person. I’m also a big fan of saunas.
Through this blog, I hope you’ll get to know both the cameras we enjoy and the people behind Akihabara Vintage.
Thank you for being here. We’d be happy to help you find a piece that feels special to you.
